The origianl Irish Handball was known as the "alley cracker" because of the sharp CRACK! it made when hit against the stone wall of a handball alley - a sound which rang out in every corner of the Emerald Isle for over 300 years. Irish Pioneers brought the game to America during the 1849 California Gold Rush. A decade later, Abe Lincon was hitting the ball on the day he was nominated for president. A full century later, NASA's Mercury 7 and Apollo astronauts incorporated the game into their physical conditioning program. Today, handball enjoys growing recognition the world over as "the perfect game". This video helps to set Fives into the global context of Handball games. A must for anyone interested in the history and development of Fives or Handball. |
